So obviously this is a limitation of the Steam Link and not the game as the game works fine on the USB port for the computer just not the Steam Link. When I try to have that player join, it does not work at all. One thing to note that I found interesting however is that the X in the middle (the home button on the controller) for the 5th controller is lighting up in the first player's position. When I look in the Steam Link, it shows 5 XInput Controllers attached so the Steam Link looks like it sees 5 controllers attached. I then took the hub, rebooted everything and then tried it downstairs connected to the Steam Link. All 5 controllers show up in the device manager as expected, also an interesting thing to note is that the X in the middle (the home button on the controller) for the 5th controller doesn't have a light on it (which I believe is correct since there are only 4 slots on the X so 5th shouldn't light up). All 5 players can join and there are no issues. If I plug in 5 wired XBOX 360 controllers into the hub and then plug that into a USB port on my computer, everything works as expected. I have an Amazon Basics USB 2.0 7 port hub.
Ok so I spent a little bit of time today doing a pretty extensive test and here are my results.
